One cyclist is in hospital with a serious head injury after a bike accident on a Calgary trail Thursday afternoon.

A jogger was also treated for a head injury, but has been released.

The female cyclist collided with a female jogger, who was running with a partner, on a trail near 17th Avenue and Deerfoot Trail S.E., near the Bow Waters Canoe Club.

The 42-year-old woman on the bike went over the guard rail and hit her head on some rocks.

She was wearing a helmet, but still received serious but non-life-threatening head injuries.

The 32-year-old jogger was admitted to hospital where she received stitches. She has been released.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. MT. The biker was going northbound and the joggers southbound when police believe the woman on the bike swerved to the opposite side and hit the jogger closest to the line.

Police Duty Insp. Paul Stacey says there is a bit of a bend in the hill at the spot, but say it’s possible the cyclist could have been going too fast.
