CBE reaches contract agreement with staff

The Calgary Board of Education has reached a contract agreement with its staff association.

New contract includes classroom aides, psychologists and secretaries

The Calgary public school board has reached a contract agreement with its staff association.

The jobs include classroom aides, psychologists, support staff and IT workers.

The Calgary Board of Education says it is a four-year agreement that is retroactive two years and was reached with the help of a mediator.

"Our members voted overwhelmingly to accept the mediator's recommendations," said Lois Robb, Staff Association Chair. "We believe the agreement is fair, and reflects the excellent work these employees perform every day on behalf of CBE students."

Naomi Johnson, chief superintendent of schools, said the agreement is good for all schools.

"We are very pleased to conclude this agreement," Johnson said. "It supports the attraction and retention of qualified employees and ensures continued support of our students by a valued group of CBE employees."

The agreement means employees will receive a total wage increase of 7.5 percent.

The 3,500 members had taken a strike vote in May.
