Operations are returning to normal at the Calgary airport this morning after a day of lengthy delays.

A day after a lightning storm stranded thousands of travellers, airlines must clear a backlog caused by a lengthy red alert.

Things are going well this morning, after Wednesday’s lightning storm left dozens of planes just sitting on the tarmac.

And when passengers finally got off the plane, some travellers such as Keith Adams of Spokane, Wash., spent the night sleeping at the airport.

"We found out when we went to go through customs, showed the girl the ticket and she said that one's cancelled and she looked away and our jaws dropped," said Adams.

"It looked like everything was going fine … and then it was a surprise."

As of right now, there are no cancellations at the airport.

Still, some people who had their flights cancelled yesterday, especially those on international flights, continue to wait to board planes.

Travelers should check the Calgary airport’s website before heading to the airport.
