A Calgary man now faces impaired driving charges in connection with a crash that killed two young people last June.

A Calgary man now faces impaired driving charges in connection to a crash that killed two young people last June.

On the evening of June 5, 16-year-old Tina Thanh Nguyen and 20-year-old Amroollah Safarai died after the Honda CR-V they were in careened off Stoney Trail as the driver attempted to exit onto McKnight Boulevard.

The SUV rolled several times, travelling roughly 120 metres off the road.

Neither of the victims were wearing a seatbelt and both were ejected, later dying in hospital.

Two others in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries, including the driver, and another passenger was unharmed.

Billal Abbou, 21, faces numerous charges, including impaired driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

He'll be in court Feb. 1.
