With his 40th birthday approaching, Mayor Naheed Nenshi said that rather than send presents, well-wishers should donate money to a charity he started in hopes of making life better in Calgary.

Calgary’s mayor is asking people to donate to a new charity he set up for the city.

With his 40th birthday approaching, Mayor Naheed Nenshi said that rather than send presents, well-wishers should donate money to a charity he started in hopes of making life better in Calgary.

"I've set up a new charitable foundation that I’m encouraging people to support that is focused on a few important things for Calgary, three things in fact: on immigrant youth, on arts and culture in the city and on poverty," Nenshi said.

The Nenshi Family Charitable Fund has been set up through the Calgary Foundation
