A Calgary construction worker is in hospital after being trapped between the cab of a semi-truck and equipment a crane was moving.

The man, in his late 20s, was at the ring road worksite near 52nd Street and Highway 22X S.E. when the accident happened before 2 p.m. Thursday.

The man had been standing on the back of a semi-truck when he became pinned between the cab of the truck and the equipment that was on the crane, said Calgary police duty inspector Paul Stacey.

Personnel from the Calgary Fire Department’s heavy rescue team managed to free the man.

He was originally transported to hospital in life threatening condition with many broken bones, but his condition has been upgraded to serious, but non life-threatening.

The Occupational Health and Safety Board is now investigating.
