Police raided a 600-plant marijuana grow-op in northeast Calgary early Thursday morning.

Officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Whiteram Close around midnight, where they discovered an operation worth an estimated $800,000, police said.

"A lot of the plants were mature, ready to be harvested, processed and sold on the street," said duty Insp. Keith Cane.

A 62-year-old man is facing numerous charges.

Cane said while police conduct similar drug raids almost daily, this operation was nearly double the typical size.

Neighbours can help protect their community by looking for the telltale signs of a grow-op, such as limited activity and upkeep around the property and a skunky smell, he said.
