The operator of a C-Train who was caught doing a crossword puzzle while driving no longer works for the city.

Last week, a passenger snapped a picture of the driver doing the puzzle while on duty behind the wheel of a C-Train shortly after it left the SAIT/ACAD/Jubilee station.

That photograph later popped up on the internet.

Ron Collins, spokesman for Calgary Transit, said their investigation determined the train was moving at the time the photo was taken.

"Well certainly we treated the incident extremely seriously, and the person in question is no longer a City of Calgary employee," Collins said.

"They can't be doing anything to distract themselves, including [using] electronic gadgets or anything else."

He said the incident was treated as a breach of Calgary Transit's rules, which require operators to pay full attention to their duties.

"If the public would like to advise us if they see that sort of activity occurring, certainly we want to know about it," said Collins.

No details about the driver are being made public due to confidentiality.
