Emotional literacy

Empathy is a skill parents can cultivate.
Research clearly demonstrates that integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) into the classroom is good for both students and the adults who work with them. But there's a story that the research hasn't captured -- the one of powerful transformation.
Teaching children about their feelings -- to recognize them, to name them, to express them appropriately -- is an important part of being a parent.
I wonder whether I can single out the development of empathy as the most important issue that underscores all other issues in the World Economic Forum's Survey on the Global Agenda? I would love to hear global leaders discuss that topic.

Emotional literacy is one of the realms of development that must be woven into growing up. Children need to learn to recognize, name, access and live with myriad feelings, including the strong ones, all of which are healthy and normal.
